Fitness Update: 28 August
Yesterday, I struggled a bit with my bench press at 95 kilograms. Couldn’t get the last set of 5 reps; had to settle for 4. No big deal. Followed that with 6 sets of press and one set of chin-ups.
Today, I did my 3 x 5 reps of squats with 100 kilograms, followed by 3 x 5 reps of power clean with 55 kilograms. I know I’ve done something. Time for a cold beer!
Tomorrow, I hope to run.

Fitness Update: 25 August
Today was my day to work the lower body. I squeezed out 3 sets of full squats (as in ass to the grass) with 100kg on my back. Then I headed off to supervise at our harrier club meet—I didn’t run. Once back at home, I did four sets of power clean with up to 55kg.

Fitness Update: 24 August 2012
Well, after a 18-month rest from running my achilles tendon seems okay. I tottered through a 7 kilometre run yesterday. I need my running to get rid the gut I’ve grown. It’s not huge, but it’s there.
While I haven’t been running, my strength training has blossomed. The trick now is to run and lift weights to the max, something I’ve struggled with before at times.

Would Unforced Error make a good movie?
As a writer of genre fiction, I’d of course like to see my novel make it to the silver screen. I’m also realistic. Unless Unforced Error succeeds in print, it’s unlikely to be picked up by Hollywood. Hollywood moguls like nothing better than a proven concept or a seemingly sure bet, and who can fault them for that.

Weight Training Update (1 May)
Yesterday, I blitzed 3 sets of 5 reps bench press at 90kg (198 pound). Time to increase the weight to 92.5kg.
I followed that with 4 sets of press at around 40 to 45kg. Between bench press and press, I allow myself a break of say 15 minutes. When you’re working out at home, it’s easier to work that way. You’re not constantly fitting in with other people at a public gym.

Weight Training Update—20 April
Bugger! Couldn’t quite do 3 sets of 5 reps of the bench press at 90 kg. I crapped out after the 4th rep on the last set. However, it’s good to know that I’m using a weight that will severely test me.
After that, I also struggled with 47.5 kg in the press. I guess 45 kg is about my level at the moment. I must do the press only one day soon. Doing bench press first...

Weight Training Update
I did squats with 100 kilograms: 3 sets of 5 repetitions, just as Mark Rippetoe recommends. I followed that with 3 sets of the power clean with 50 kilograms on the bar, which is bugger all weight but I’m getting over a minor injury to a tendon.
After that, I opened a bottle of merlot and cooked a feed of curried eggs with rice. At age 61, I’m allowed to do shit like that.
